6 Month Workshop Series
Completion Reqirements

Why would a participant want to complete the full 6 month series of workshops?

Once the requirements are complete a participant can apply with THAI Healing Alliance to become a Registered Thai Therapist (RTT).  This in turn will allow the participant to apply to the Associated Massage and Bodywork Professionals (ABMP) organization as a practitioner and carry insurance for your practice.

In order to complete the series, you must complete 20 logged sessions of 90 minutes or more,  4 participant practice clinic sessions, 4 hours of community service,  and a three page research paper. You will need to attend 90 percent of the 162 classroom hours. If you miss more than that, you will be expected to make up those hours by doing private sessions with assistants or the directors or (in the case that you miss the 5th and 6th weekend) retaking the weekend the next time it is offered.  There are extra costs involved with making up hours with private sessions or doing the weekend in the future.

Thai MassageThere is a one hour hands-on practice session between the 5th and 6th weekends where you will give a Thai treatment to one of the Pauls (this makes the Pauls very happy:)) Finally, there is an expectation of home study where you will create a yoga practice, meditation practice, and keep a journal.

Logged Sessions

We require a minimum of 20 documented practice sessions to be completed by the time of completion.  This means you must complete a minimum of four sessions in between each weekend.  In order for you to achieve Registered Thai Therapist (RTT) status through the Thai Healing Alliance (THAI), you must document a total of 50 sessions. Therefore, you will need to complete 30 more sessions (unless you completed more than 20 during the series, which is quite common) after completion in order to meet that requirement.

Participant Practice Clinic

You are required to work with the general public during four teacher supervised sessions. See the dates and location of the participant practice clinic for the next 6 month workshop series.

Community Outreach

We will support you as you spend a minimum of 4 hours working with a community organization or in some way offering SEVA (the Sanskrit word for service). You will have two choices. You can either find your own site/ person to offer your service (CSTM must approve the site/person) or you can join us on a Seva field trip where we offer Thai bodywork to those in underserved communities. At this time we are working with Association House in the Humbolt Park neighborhood of Chicago. See dates and locations for the community outreach in the next 6 month workshop series.

Home Practice

You will be expected to have a home meditation practice, a home yoga practice, keep a journal of your thoughts and experiences as you go through the series, do the required reading, and complete a three page research paper on a Thai related topic of your choice.
