4 Month Advanced Training
Overview

After thinking about this for a long time, we have come up with what we believe is a good follow up to the six month program. As we have watched our graduates working through the past few years, we realize that having more experience and time working particular parts of the body is necessary. We still believe that Thai massage works great as an integrated system covering the whole body. However, having specific knowledge about conditions and how to treat them can only enhance your knowledge and ability to help your client.

This program meets one weekend per month – Friday night through Sunday – for four consecutive months. It is clinically based, focusing on anatomy, pathology and ideas on how to work specific areas of the body. For instance, one weekend we focus on shoulders and upper back. We will learn the anatomy of that area as well as common pathology that you might be faced with such as frozen shoulder or rotator cuff tears. We learn more techniques to work that area including the use of herbal compress. All the main components of the six- month program will be included in this program as well such as students clinic, seva, meditation (seated and walking), yoga, qi gong, ruesri daton and self-massage.

Overall, there will be more reading, writing and practice than in the six month program.

Anatomy / Pathology

You will need to learn muscles and bones of the specific regions that we focus on and you will be required to write short essays over a variety of conditions that are commonly found in the region of the body that we are studying.

Herbal Compress (Luc Pra Kob)

We will practice using herbal compress each weekend as we integrate it into our treatments as a tool for warming and healing.

Student clinic

We will make an effort to attract people who have various conditions to the student clinics. So on the weekend we do shoulders and upper back, we will try to get people in who have issues with shoulders and upper back. In addition, the student clinic will be folded into the Sunday of each weekend.

Meditation

We will have more outside reading, such as Jack Kornfield’s A Path with Heart among others. The time we spend in the class will be less dharma talk and more practice. We will sit 40 minutes on Saturday and do 40 minutes of walking meditation on Sunday.

Ruesri Daton

We will integrate 3 Ruesri Daton moves into each weekend.

Yoga

Yoga will be taught on Saturday and Sunday, again, linking it to the learnings for the weekend.

Qi Gong

We will integrate the breath and movement practice of Qi gong into each weekend specifically teaching the “seven static poses”.

Seva

You will be required to do 4 hours of Seva on your own.

Home Practice

You will be required to do six Thai sessions between each weekend as well as yoga, meditation, qi gong, and journaling.

Work on the Teachers

You will be required to do two sessions on Paul or Paul. One is done earlier on in the course and the other is done later on.
